Mrs. Watson, LPN~ Legacy Instructor
“I nominate Judah Joseph from Carmel High School for the Legacy Medical Academy Student Spotlight. From the start of the semester, Judah has been an active participant in classroom discussions. He is a model student who takes great care in his academic and technical performance. Judah has an ideal learner’s mindset. He understands the curriculum for the pathway is complementary or new material and is not afraid to demonstrate his progressive knowledge on subject matter. Simply put, he is not afraid of getting the answer wrong. This is critical for students in health careers pathways. While textbook knowledge provides a great foundation, it is the application of the skills he demonstrates that have helped him to excel as a leader in the lab and clinical settings. Judah’s tone is always compassionate and supportive. You can find him providing feedback and instruction to his peers in a way they understand to help them achieve their clinical goals.”
Why did you choose to enroll in the Legacy Medical Academy Pre-Nursing program at your school?
I chose to enroll in the Legacy Medical Academy Pre-Nursing program because I have always wanted to help people on the medical side. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease about 3-4 years ago and during that time it made me realize that I want to pursue a career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (NP), to help kids who have the same condition as me. I thought this course would be an amazing introduction into medicine and also give me opportunities for the future.
What are your plans after you receive your CNA certification? Will you attend college, go right into the workforce, or both?
My plans after I receive my certification are to go to a 4-year college, specifically Indiana University, and then for graduate school go to Indiana University Indianapolis. I would go to college to get more involved in Nursing and to get my degree to become a NP. I would also be working as a CNA to help pay for college and to earn more experience with bedside manner, learning how to operate in the workforce on the medical side, and lastly exploring opportunities.
What are your ultimate goals? How is the CNA certification helping you achieve those goals?
Ultimately being a CNA will hopefully help me gain experience to become a pediatric NP. Being a CNA helps me learn bedside manner since I’m working with the residents so closely. Which in turn will get me further ahead than other NP’s who just got into the medical field. Also working so closely with other nurses and doctors will help provide more opportunities and experience for the future.
